Puppy Love

Hi, guys.  Meet Stella and Hudson, our Maltese-Mix and Goldendoodle (1/2 standard poodle, 1/2 golden retriever)

Stella

Hudson

They are pretty much the icing to our cake, the peanut butter to our jelly, the ketchup to our fries.  They make our world go-round and we can't imagine doing life without them.

Here's a little History on these pups and how they came into the lives of our family.

Stella-

I came across a picture of Stella in our local newspaper, the week before Christmas 2012.  I had been looking for a small, white dog, and something about Stella intrigued me.  She was at our local Animal Shelter (which is run by the City where I work).  I had an employee take me to the animal shelter (I didn't know how to get there!)  When I met Stella, she was very skiddish.  She didn't want much interaction.  She looked underweight, scared, pitiful.  I left the shelter unsure of what to do.

back-up history on me: I was living by myself, no boyfriend, parents were in Kansas (18 hours away).  This decision was merely MY OWN and I don't like making big decisions like that....I'm the most indecisive person you will ever meet! Plus, the apartment complex I was living in was SUPER strict on animals.

Okay- so I kept thinking about her.  The day before Christmas Eve (December 23, 2012) we were getting ready to get off work and I was walking out of the door.  Our office was closed the rest of the week into the weekend.  I knew Stella was at the shelter.  I knew it was COLD.  I knew there was rain in the forecast.

I NEEDED STELLA.

So, long story short---I called, went the next day, picked Stella up on a "foster parent basis" and NEVER took her back.

Stella has had multiple medical issues to date.  She was FREE to get (which my Mama always said "honey, nothing in life is FREE").  Oh boy, she was so right.

So, the first thing: she had a growth, a tumor.  They weren't sure if it was cancerous or not.

She was spayed and had the tumor removed.  It was benign, thankfully.

A month after surgery, Stella got sick.  Really sick.  Body shutting down sick  Turns out Stella has Addison's Disease.  After 5 nights in the animal Hospital, Stella was home with me.

We have her Addison's under control and she's had mild cases of ear infections, but other than that she's been good.  Until now---now she has a Hematoma in her ear.  Stay tuned on the outcome of this story.

Hudson-

My Husband, fiance at the time we got Hudson, lost his best friend, a Husky named Nich, from heart failure.  It broke his heart and I won't go into the details because it is still so sad to this day.  But, when he lost Nich, his heart longed for another forever friend.

Nich stayed at his Grandaddy's house (because he has a big yard) and since Josh and I live in a small townhome, with a SMALL patio area, I knew that when we got another dog, it had to be an INSIDE dog.  We just didn't have room to keep a dog outside without our patio being torn to shreds.

So, of course, I began searching for dogs for Josh.  Yes, I am a control freak and I needed a say in our next addition to our family.  I actually found a cute picture of a goldendoodle pup on pinterest and fell.in.love.  I needed a dog like this.

Josh grew up with bigger dogs.  The only dogs I ever knew were itty bitty, like Stella.  So, after googling goldendoodles, I found out a few great things about them.

They are hypoallergenic (meaning they don't shed).... PERFECT for an indoor dog.  They are also very good with children.  We always have to be thinking in the future, because Lord willing, Josh and I want to have children some day in the near future.  This was necessary because I do NOT BELIEVE IN GIVING DOGS AWAY after you get them.  Nothing makes me more furious when I see people giving dogs away because they don't get along with the children, they are moving, etc. I don't know about you, but my dogs are my FAMILY.  They are my CHILDREN (yes, I'm THAT KIND OF DOG MOM!).

So, long story short, I found a breeder in the Upstate SC (about an hour from my house) and we ended up bringing Hudson home the first time we saw him.

He was the last pup available from his litter, and I couldn't bear the thought of no one wanting him.  He's perfect.  He's a ball of energy.  He's the sweetest, smartest, most cuddly dog I've ever known, and we love him so much.

So, I hope you enjoy seeing these two grow throughout the days and years ahead.  They are the most important part of our family and we are so happy to have them in our lives.
